After a couple of weeks of non-elevated PGA Tour events, we have a great event ahead of us in the Wells Fargo Championship.
The best golfers on the PGA Tour descend upon Quail Hollow for the final big event before the second major of the year, the PGA Championship.
In this article, I’m going to rank the top 10 golfers to win the Wells Far Championship, based on both the betting odds and my personal opinion.
Let’s dive into it.
Wells Fargo Championship Power Rankings
1) Tony Finau +1600
Tony Finau is coming off a win at the Mexico Open and he leads this week’s field in total strokes gained with Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler taking the week off. That means he should be, in my opinion, the betting favorite.
He has four wins dating back to July of last year and he’s in a good spot to get his fifth this weekend.
2) Patrick Cantlay +1200
Patrick Cantlay comes into this week’s event in good form, coming off back-to-back top 5 finishes. He also ranks second in the field in total strokes gained behind only Finau. He may play slow, but he plays well.
3) Xander Schauffele +1400
Speaking of golfers in good form, keep an eye on Xander Schauffele heading into this week. His last four starts have gone T19, T5, T10, 4, and T4. He also finished in 14th the last time this event was held at Quail Hollow.
It’s time for him to prove he can win a big boy event with a strong field.
4) Rory McIlroy +750
Rory McIlroy won this event last time it was at Quail Hollow and this course has always been one of his best on the PGA Tour’s schedule. Dating back to 2013, he finished in the top 10 in six of eight starts at Quail Hollow, including two wins.
His recent form has been bad, but if there’s ever a time for a bounce back spot, it’s this week.
5) Cameron Young +2000
Cameron Young’s style of play fits this course to perfection, so it could be time for him to grab his first win on PGA Tour. His strong play off the tee will set him up for success at Quail hollow.
At 20/1, he might just have the best value on the board.
6) Viktor Hovland +2000
Quail Hollow was kind to Viktor Hovland the last time it hosted the Wells Fargo Championship, as he finished T3 here in 2021.
His putter has been hot and cold so far this season but if it lands on a hot week this time around, he’s going to be in contention on Sunday.
7) Jordan Spieth +1800
Jordan Spieth has never thrived at Quail Hollow in his career, but his recent form makes him a top prospect to win this week. He has finished inside the top 5 in four of his last six starts.
8) Matt Fitzpatrick +2200
Matt Fitzpatrick struggled to start the 2023 PGA Tour season, but he finally figured things out and won the RBC Heritage just three weeks ago.
If that’s a sign of things to come, then he presents great betting value this week at 22/1.
9) Max Homa +2200
Max Homa has won this event twice, but last year’s edition was at a different course with Quail Hollow hosting the Presidents Cup inside. Still, he won this event at Quail Hollow in 2019 so he has winning experience at this track.
My main concern with Homa is he has missed two straight cuts and hasn’t finished inside the top 10 at a stroke play event since The Players Championship.
10) Collin Morikawa +2000
Collin Morikawa is another golfer that’s giving me concern with his recent form, but when he’s on, he’s on. He still might just be the best iron player on the PGA Tour, which makes him a threat to win any week.
This will be his first start at Quail Hollow.
