In a joint message from Thomas Markle Sr. and his son Thomas Jr, he said: “On this very sad day, the world has lost the most amazing queen in history.
“Queen Elizabeth II, you will always be loved and never forgotten as our hearts, prayers and thoughts will always be with you, along with our deepest sorrow and sympathy for the entire royal family.”
Thomas Markle Sr. has been estranged from his daughter for some years and missed her wedding to Prince Harry.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died this afternoon at Balmoral Castle.
A statement from Buckingham Palace said: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
“The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
Prince Harry was sadly unable to get to Balmoral before her death as all the Queen’s children rushed to Balmoral earlier today.
The Duchess of Sussex remained in London, while the Duchess of Cambridge was unable to travel with husband and new Prince of Wales William as the couple’s young children had their first day of school.
He released a statement calling his mother’s death a moment of the “greatest sadness”.
New Prime Minister Liz Truss said the Queen was the rock upon which modern Britain was built and said that she “provided us with the stability and strength that we needed”.
