Sam Elliott has apologised for the dissentious remarks he made about The Power of the Dog.
During an look on the WTF With Marc Maron podcast in early March, the A Star Is Born star called director Jane Campion’s movie a “piece of st” and criticised how it deconstructs the traditional cowboy stereotype, comparing the ranchers to Chippendale dancers.
Appearing at Deadline’s Contenders TELEVISION occasion justrecently, Elliott released an apology to Campion and the cast of the film.
“I informed the WTF podcaster that I idea Jane Campion was a dazzling director, and I desire to apologise to the cast of The Power of the Dog, dazzling stars all,” he started.
The 77-year-old went on to make a point of apologising to lead star Benedict Cumberbatch.
“And in specific, Benedict Cumberbatch. I can just state that I’m sorry and I am. I am,” referencing his earlier remark that “Cumberbatch neverever got out of his fking chaps”.
In addition, Elliott confessed to the outlet that he wasn’t “very articulate” throughout the podcast and feels “terrible” about how his words were got, particularly by members of the gay neighborhood.
“I stated some things that hurt individuals and I feel dreadful about that,” he continued. “The gay neighborhood hasactually been extraordinary to me my whole profession. And I mean my whole profession, from priorto I got began in this town. Friends on every level and every task description up upuntil today.
“I’m sorry I hurt any of those pals and somebody that I liked. And anybody else by the words that I utilized.”
The Power of the Dog was chose for 12 classifications at the 2022 Academy Awards, with Campion taking house the Best Director reward.
