On February 28th, Raveena will release the deluxe edition of her 2024 album, ‘Where The Butterflies Go In The Rain’.
The deluxe album was finished during a period of upheaval in the midst of the fires which devastated Southern California. The two new singles, an updated version of ‘Lose My Focus’, as well as a remix of the single, centre themes of climate grief, love and domesticity, while gesturing to a more hopeful future.
As a preview, Raveena has shared ‘Sun Don’t Leave Me’. Inspired by the truth-telling spirit of Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell and Leon Bridges, the singer muses on the sanctity of life on earth and the need to prize ephemeral moments for tomorrow is never guaranteed.
“This song captures the feeling of grief for a simpler time on Earth – for the grief of our Earth’s resources, climate and beauty rapidly declining. I was feeling the intensity of this song more than ever because of the ways the fires in LA were affecting me and my loved ones, as a person in the highest level evacuation zone. Even larger than climate grief, this song contemplates the feeling of wanting to hold onto one more beautiful sunset, one more passionate embrace, before things change again and hard times strike.”
On ‘Where the Butterflies Go in the Rain’, Raveena drew inspiration from people who “are really good at capturing the beauty and loss of life in the same breath.” Threading together expansive songwriting with traditional Indian instruments and feel-good early 2000s pop hits, Raveena released a project capturing the most complete expression of self to date. “I don’t think I’ve ever understood a record so well before—It wasn’t like the process I used to have with past albums where I was more anxious about being at my best. This time, it was all intuition, and I knew the album was right when I finally had the feeling of rest.”
The new single arrives ahead of upcoming tour dates to be announced soon and follows the release of Raveena’s film Where The Butterflies Went, a 30-minute piece executive produced by James Beard, Award-winning chef and two-time Emmy Award nominee Sophia Roe, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary collective Aerthship.
