The 49-year-old rocker – who is understood for being the frontman of rock band Placebo – had worked with David over the years and confessed that he still sees the famous glam rock icon as a “mentor” who is still with him following his death from liver cancer at the age of 69 back in2016
He stated: “I feel like I still bring a piece of him with me, as a coach, godfather or fortunate star. I still feel it’s tough for me to talk about David. I have outright appreciation for him, unquestionably. There are specific days, like his birthday, when he would haveactually been 75-, I’m almost 50 now, I’m getting old so I frequently believe about him. When he was my age he tossed a big celebration at Madison Square Garden,which we had the honour of playing. When I was in his orbit I was young and conceited.”
The ‘Pure Morning’ hitmaker – who workedtogether with the late star on Placebo hit’Without You I’m Nothing’ – went on to discuss that he didn’t “fully comprehend’ the effect that ‘Ziggy Stardust’ icon had had on him till after his death and confessed that often the sorrow “hits him hard.”
He informed The Daily Star’s Wired column: “I was persuaded I shouldhave to be there by his side. He had to leave us priorto I completely comprehended the impact he had on me as an artist and a human being. At the time, I didn’t understand anything. Today all of that apprenticeship makes sense. Sometimes feelings hit me tough and talking about David typically does that to me.”
