In an effort to address its issues with variety in its training and front-office ranks, the NFL will hold a workshop for 64 potential head-coaching and basic supervisor prospects at its yearly spring owners conference lateron this month in Atlanta.
According to a memo gotten by ESPN, which was sentout to NFL group owners, head coaches and GMs on April 8, the two-day conference May 23-24 will function networking chances for “diverse, potential Club-nominated Head Coaching and General Manager potentialcustomers” with group owners and other high-ranking executives.
Each NFL group, the memo states, will choose 2 individuals — “one from the training side and one from the gamer workers side.” The memo asks that those individuals be “senior females and minority high-potential coach or gamer workers” prospects. A source stated the group of 64 will getinvolved in sessions and programs developed to evenmore their education on the company of football and goover training strategies.
But the primary objective of the program is to get minority prospects for head coach and GM openings face time with the league’s highest-ranking decision-makers. The concept grew out of feedback the league’s variety committee got at the NFL hunting integrate in March from prospects — some who were effective and some who were not — from the most current coach/GM hiring cycle. Some of those prospects informed the committee that one of the things that troubled them about the procedure was that the veryfirst time they ever fulfilled a group owner was when they went in to interview for the task.
