King Charles appears to shut down Donald Trump’s attempt to give him a new nickname in a blunt five-word remark. The exchange took place while the US President was seen enjoying an unprecedented second State Visit in the UK last week.
While staying at Windsor Castle, the 79-year-old was said to have been fascinated by the almost 1,000-year-old building. After an aide informed him that it was built in the year 990, he remarked, “[I’m] trying to figure that one out. 990? So it’s like, you know, it’s like really old.”
During his speech at the American Cornerstone Institute Dinner, Trump referred to William the Conqueror as the “coolest name ever,” which prompted him to try and give King Charles a new nickname.

He told the audience: “I asked King Charles, ‘Why don’t we call you Charles the Conqueror?’”
William the Conqueror was the Norman ruler who invaded England in 1066 and defeated the Anglo-Saxon King Harold Godwinson at the Battle of Hastings.
Shutting down the nickname, the King, 76, was then remembered to have replied: “No, [Laughs] I don’t think so.”
Praising the King on his two-day visit, which took place just days after Prince Harry’s visit to the UK, he added: “He’s a great guy and he’s doing a great job. An unbelievable job.”

After returning to the US on Thursday, Trump said: “It was a really fantastic trip. The British know how to do this perfectly.”
The US President then appeared to let slip that they will soon invite the King and Queen to the US.
He said: “They set the bar high for their trip to see us.”
